Teachers: General Information

Formats and Timetables

The Fundación Comillas strives for maximum flexibility regarding courses so that they can fit in with the free time of both future SFL teachers, as well as experienced teachers who are eager to refresh their knowledge.

The following formats and timetables are therefore available

  1. Intensive courses. There are 8 weekend courses available between the months of March and December. Each attendance course will last 10 hours and will have a total load corresponding to 1 ECTS credit. The timetable will be the following: Fridays, from 16.00 to 20.00 and Saturdays, from 9.30 to 14.00 and from 16.00 to 18.00.
  2. Modules for Teachers of Spanish for Special Needs (SSN). During the months of July and September, 4 one-week modules will be offered. Each attendance course will last 30 hours and the total load will correspond to 3 ECTS credits. One ECTS credit corresponds to 25 hours of preparation, teaching and studying of the module or subject. The timetable will be from Monday to Friday, from 9 to 13.30 and from 15.00 to 17.00. All of these courses make up a training module that will be complemented by other courses according to the Fundación Comillas Training Programme for Spanish Teachers.
  3. MA in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language. This is a Fundación Comillas course in collaboration with the University of Cantabria. It lasts from October to May and the timetable is Mondays to Fridays, from 4 to 8 in the evenings. A total of 60 credits can be obtained with this course.

Module Structure

The range of teacher training courses offered by the Fundación Comillas follows a modular or scalable structure so that students can develop their own curriculum in a flexible way and can accumulate enough credits to obtain the desired degree or diploma. Academic studies are devised by students to suit their own needs.

Each Intensive course is the equivalent of 1 ECTS credit. Completing the eight intensive courses makes a total of 8 credits, which can be added to the 12 made up by the Modules for Teachers of Spanish for Special Needs, to thus complete the 20 credits needed to obtain the Postgraduate Certificate. This qualification will provide access to the MA in the Teaching of Spanish as Foreign Language.

In this way, students:

  • Will have the opportunity to attend the Intensive Courses and the courses included in the SSN Modules, both independently and over one or more academic years.
  • Will be able to take a University Course in Continuing Education Diploma with a minimum of 1 credit and a maximum of 5 credits.
  • Will be able to obtain the Diploma corresponding to a University Course in Specialisation with a minimum of 5 credits and a maximum of 15.
  • Will be able to obtain, in addition to the Diploma, free choice credits calculated on their studies.
  • Will have the possibility of being awarded a Postgraduate Certificate. This is possible if, along with the credits calculated from the previously mentioned Diplomas, credits from other continuing education courses are added to reach the 20 points needed for this Postgraduate Certificate awarded by the Foundation.
  • Will be able to validate 15 credits from this programme for the distance-learning modules of the MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language.
