Teachers: Modules for Teachers of Spanish for Special Needs (SSN)
General Aims
These modules allow Spanish teachers to broaden their knowledge about the specific needs of formal and functional communication found in different professional fields. Specialised languages appear within the common language, sharing most structural features, especially when referring to morphology and syntax. However, they are different from the common language due to the aforementioned needs, which allow students to communicate efficiently in fields of commerce, science, tourism and international relations, among others.
Approach
These modules start off from a general to an extremely specific approach, as explained below:
- Basic Module: In this module a general view is seen of specialised languages: the features that differentiate them from the common language in their linguistic, pragmatic and functional aspects.
- Advanced Module: In this module we look at different approaches, the methodology and didactic orientations of teaching Spanish for Special Needs.
- Specialised Proficiency Module: This module is based on a study of the main professional fields in which the teaching and learning of Spanish have become especially significant over the last few decades. We make reference to the importance that the Spanish language – as a vehicle of cultural, commercial, and scientific expression - has acquired in international relations, scientific, commercial and tourism fields. Within this module there are two sub-modules: Business and Banking and the Sectorial sub-module.
- The Basic (1) and Advanced modules (2) offer a general approach (and constitute the Basic module), whilst the Specialised Proficiency module (3) follows a specific approach (and therefore constitutes the Proficiency module). These courses are both for professionals and students in the first and second university cycle.
