Teachers: MA in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language

The Fundación Comillas, in collaboration with the University of Cantabria, offers an MA in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language, a new official qualification within the framework of European studies.

Given that it is possible for students to gain access to the MA from the Training Programme for Spanish Teachers, information regarding this MA course shall be provided below.

The aim of this MA is to train Spanish teachers who will be able to respond to the demand experienced in a sector in continuous growth: the language teaching sector in general, and in particular, the teaching of Spanish

To achieve this goal, the programme offers solid theoretical training, accompanied by a work placement period and a period of research and development that culminates in the writing of a professional action plan (research paper).

Finally, an Introductory Module is included for teachers from specific linguistic backgrounds (Portuguese, English and Chinese). These teachers require answers to specific problems brought about by very distinct learning profiles.

Aims

The general aim of this course is to train teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language. There are two levels to this training programme: MA and Postgraduate.

The objectives are to:

• Offer theoretical knowledge about applied linguistics, in addition to giving training in teaching skills that cover not only exploiting New Technologies applied to language teaching, but also planning teaching units and analysing materials.
• Show that there is a relationship between language, culture and society whilst teaching Spanish to foreigners.
• Complement theoretical training with work placements in centres that are specialised in the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language.

Students

This course will be taken by university graduates and professional language teachers who wish to receive qualified training that is both theoretical and practical.

In particular, this MA course is aimed at people who are interested in becoming teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language, Spanish language assistants abroad, as well as by people who are interested in working for companies related to the Spanish as a Foreign Language sector and those who would like to become teachers at the Fundación Comillas.
