The Official Degree in Hispanic Studies taught at the CIESE-Fundación Comillas University Centre (a centre affiliated to the University of Cantabria) is an innovative proposal with respect to other university studies such as Spanish Philology or Hispanic Philology. Thus, along with the usual subjects related to Spanish language and literature, these studies encompass in an integrative way the humanistic, linguistic and cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries. This degree offers 240 ECTS credits divided into four academic years.

A UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT AND INDIVIDUALIZED TRAINING

This Degree in Hispanic Studies from the CIESE-Fundación Comillas is also taught in a unique environment with great heritage value such as the Comillas Major Seminary. Students at the CIESE-Fundación Comillas university centre receive individualized training adapted to their needs. In addition to teaching the contents of each subject, teachers encourage the development of students’ intellectual and reflective capacity.

STUDENT PROFILE

The Centre expects students with a high school education and humanistic and linguistic interests, communicative skills, interest in Spanish and Latin American culture and literature, good written expression, ability to synthesize, ease with languages, ability to reason and abstract, and interest in reading, in addition to having imagination, creativity and the ability to reflect. Our degree does not require a cut-off mark. All those students who have passed the university entrance tests and have level A2 of English will be able to access the studies.

CLASSROOM BASED AND ONLINE LEARNING

The Degree in Hispanic Studies is in person, classroom based, but an online learning, technology enhanced teaching is also offered. Students who choose this option will be able to access the virtual classroom, being exempt from in-person classes and having to attend exclusively the exams and tutorials (if they consider it appropriate).

PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

The multidisciplinary nature of this degree increases the professional opportunities of students. Once the degree is completed, they will be able to work in various areas of the language and culture of the Hispanic world. Graduates in Hispanic Studies can develop professionally in the field of education (as teachers, teachers of Spanish as a Foreign Language and research and development), in communication (translation or linguistic advice, media and publishing), in cultural field (in the field of linguistic and cultural mediation, cultural management and tourism and digitalization of Spanish) and in the international field (in the area of international and geopolitical relations and diplomatic representation).

RESEARCH AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS

Students are part of work networks, projects and research groups, from the beginning of their studies. Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration with entities such as the RAE, the Cervantes Institute, the Menéndez Pelayo International University and the Botín Foundation, among others, students will be able to opt for their first work experience related to their academic training through the paid internship program and carry out internships throughout the degree.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND PAYMENT FACILITIES

The Comillas Foundation has its own Quality and Excellence scholarship program for studies of the Official Degree in Hispanic Studies. Students can also apply for scholarships to pursue university studies granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture, as well as scholarships for university students from the Botín Foundation.

In addition to the scholarship program, another means of aid that the Comillas Foundation offers to all its university students is the program of payment facilities for tuition costs through payment in installments over the 9 months of the academic year and without any type of surcharge additional.

UNIVERSITY TRANSPORTATION SERVICE AND AID

Likewise, the institution also offers the service and a university transportation aid program for those students who request the bus service provided by the centre and that runs the route from Santander to Comillas, with stops in Torrelavega and Cabezón de la Sal.
